Dudu Msomi is the Founder and CEO of Busara Leadership Partners, a research-orientated strategic advisory service and consulting company whose expertise is to facilitate the conception and execution of effective strategies that achieve the goals through an integrated approach to leadership, governance and strategy. Msomi is a Strategist, Leadership expert, Business/Leadership/Board/Strategy Coach and Business/Leadership/Board/Strategy Mentor. Dudu Msomi has expertise and experience in strategy workshops facilitation, strategy formulation and implementation; designing and implementing transformation programmes in companies and industry bodies; marketing; advertising; communications; human resources leadership and corporate governance. Dudu’s experience spans diverse industries such as retail, advertising, financial services, Information, Communications & Technology consulting and professional, membership services.
Dudu Msomi was awarded the 2013 Laureate Award by the University of Pretoria as a GIBS Alumnus to honour her outstanding contribution to the field of leadership development, strategy and governance. Dudu Msomi was selected by the US Consulate in South Africa to be part of the mentoring programme with FORTUNE/US State Department Global Women Leaders from 25 April – 21 May 2010. Dudu Msomi was selected in 2015 as a mentee on the Cherie Blair Foundation. Dudu Msomi writes and speaks on the economy, leadership, diversity, women in leadership, corporate governance, boards and entrepreneurship amongst other topics.
Dudu Msomi has a B.A. Hons. (University of Natal, Dbn); Postgraduate Diploma in Advertising and Marketing (AAA School of Advertising); Postgraduate Diploma in Corporate Governance (RAU); Programme for Management Development (GIBS) and a Masters in Business Administration (GIBS).
Dudu Msomi holds board directorships on the Financial Services Board (FSB) and National Housing Finance Corporation (NHFC). Msomi is a member of the Licensing, Litigation and Audit Committees on the FSB Board and of the Social & Ethics and the Development Impact and Strategy Committees on the NHFC Board. She is a Trustee on the Humulani Trust (Invicta Holdings).
Chief Strategist, Citadel Asset Management
Adrian assumed the role of Citadel Chief Strategist after a joint venture between Cannon and Citadel in 2014. He offers tactical asset allocation input for client portfolios and is a disciple of fundamental investing. Adrian has been involved in the investment management industry since 1994, when he formed an investment vehicle which later led him to establish BayHill Capital Advisors in 1998, the forerunner to Cannon Asset Managers. As an executive director and Chief Investment Officer of Cannon Asset Managers, Adrian has experience in managing all of the major asset classes, including equities, bonds, property, cash and derivative instruments. Adrian was awarded the Economics Society of South Africa's Founders Medal for his PhD which he completed in 1997. He is a UNESCO laureate. Alongside his career in asset management, Adrian holds a Visiting Professorship in Economics and Finance at the Gordon Institute of Business Science.
Justice Malala is one of South Africa’s most respected political commentators, newspaper columnists and an award-winning former editor. Malala writes regular weekly columns for The Times newspaper and the Financial Mail magazine. He also presents the popular weekly political talk show, The Justice Factor on the independent eNews Channel, Sunday at 9.30am and 12.30pm. He is the resident political analyst for e.tv and eNews Channel.
His work has been published internationally in newspapers such as The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, Financial Times, The Independent, Forbes, Institutional Investor, The Age and The Observer. He has also contributed to BBC Online and Deutsche Welle. He has given talks and rendered political advisory to international and local institutions such as JP Morgan, Liberty, Lehman Brothers, Old Mutual and Edcon.
Malala was founding editor of ThisDay, the quality, upmarket South African daily newspaper which was launched on October, 7, 2003, but folded a year later. Malala was an executive producer on Hard Copy 1 and 2, a ground-breaking television series on SABC 3. The first series of Hard Copy won the Golden Horn Award for best television series.
Malala is a judge on the country’s most prestigious investigative journalism award, the Taco Kuiper Awards for Investigative Journalism. His collection of satirical Financial Mail columns, Let Them Eat Cake, is at all good bookshops.
CEO, Tongaat Hulett
Peter Staude is the Chief Executive Officer of Tongaat Hulett with qualifications: BSC (IND ENG)(HONS) (CUM LAUDE), MBA (PRETORIA). Peter Staude lectured at the University of Pretoria before joining Tongaat Hulett in 1978. In 1990 he became Managing Director of Hulett Aluminium Rolled Products and in 1996 Managing Director of Hulett Aluminium. He was appointed to the Tongaat Hulett Board in 1997 and became Chief Executive Officer in May 2002. He was the Chairman of Hulett Aluminium from 2002 to July 2007. He is also the former Chairman of Trade & Investment KZN and now a Non-Executive Director of Hulamin.
CEO, Durban Chamber of Commerce
Dumile Cele is the Chief Executive Officer of the Durban Chamber of Commerce. She has extensive corporate experience at senior management levels, which together with her qualifications has equipped her with business management skills within the broader socio-economic and political environment. Her corporate experience is coupled with experience in the small, medium and micro enterprise sector. As a certified director, Dumile also has a full appreciation of the intricacies of corporate structure.
Dumile is a UCT Class of 1994 graduate who has done it all in the corporate and the NPO world. Her experience has ranged from the Durban Chamber where she managed the SMME Department for a year in the absence of an enterprise development manager. She has been involved in various BEE investment initiatives including being part of the Bidvest empowerment deal which gave her exposure to the entire port authority operations and specifically port business. She has travelled extensively around Europe studying international best practice in a number of sea ports in countries such as Germany, Netherlands, France, Belgium and the UK. She also studied logistics management in Antwerp, Belgium. Her experience in maritime industry is wide-ranging and at both middle and executive management.
She is also a founder of a non-profit organisation for women development and empowerment. The organisation aims to move women out of the peripheral of our society into the socio-economic main stream. Branches have grown from Durban to Newcastle, Piet Retief, Eshowe, Pietermaritzburg, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town.
Earlier in her working career, Dumile decided to leave the corporate world and become self-employed in order to create more flexibility while raising a young family. During this time Dumile completed an executive coaching course with the Coaching Centre based in Cape Town. She has since gained experience coaching people at various levels. She also did much business consulting and skills development during this time.
